New York Power Authority

In the early 1990s, Fugro EarthData and New York Power Authority (NYPA) began working together to support the utility company's geospatial needs. As a supplier of electric power throughout New York State, NYPA maintains over 1,400 mi of transmission lines and manages eighteen power-generating facilities, including a hydroelectric generator powered by one of the world's natural wonders—Niagara Falls. Mapping and GIS products are among the tools NYPA uses to meet its large-capacity demands within environmentally friendly production. Under contract to NYPA, Fugro EarthData has delivered digital orthophotography, topographic mapping, volumetric surveys, photointerpretation, wetlands delineation, land-use and land-cover mapping for the service region along the St. Lawrence River and surrounding area.
