Savannah Area GIS

The City of Savannah, Chatham County, the Metropolitan Planning Commission, and Savannah Electric, as SAGIS, worked with Fugro EarthData to build a regional GIS for applications that achieve objectives in economic development, improve services to the region's growing population, preserve historic communities, and manage flooding and other environmental conditions. Under three contracts since 1996, SAGIS and Fugro EarthData have developed a 1"=200' orthophoto base map and detailed planimetric mapping. The 2004 effort used all-digital technologies to update the base map and planimetric layers for transportation, structures, hydrology, and the area's master address database. Currently, Fugro EarthData is producing updated high resolution color orthophotos and planimetric mapping for Effingham and Chatham Counties with final deliverables scheduled for completion in the summer of 2008.
