World Trade Center

In the wake of 9/11, Fugro EarthData worked in partnership with the New York State Office for Technology and New York City and State personnel to support recovery and relief efforts at the World Trade Center. Between September 15 and October 22, EarthData completed forty-three aerial missions over Ground Zero, acquiring and processing data to provide first-responders with up-to-date geospatial information. The collaborative efforts resulted in near-daily deliveries of high-resolution digital orthophoto base maps, which helped workers pinpoint locations and monitor changing conditions at Ground Zero; lidar data, which provided a 3D perspective of rubble volumes and subsidence; and thermal data, which enabled workers to locate and monitor temperature-related hazards, including underground fires.
