Colombia GeoSAR

Fugro EarthData has collected more than 193,000 sq km of IFSAR data in Colombia using the GeoSAR radar mapping system. The effort began in 2003 when, operating at an altitude of 11 km and a coverage rate of 250 sq km per minute, the GeoSAR system collected radar imagery of canopied terrain in previously unmapped regions of Colombia. Deliverables included DEMs and orthorectified reflectance images in both X- and P-bands. In 2005, Fugro EarthData again mobilized to Colombia to work on a follow-up project which served to update 30-year-old geospatial products in the country's southern region. GeoSAR system improvements, including the addition of a lidar profiler for ground control, resulted in longer flight lines and reduced acquisition times, increased data upload rates, zero data retakes, and enhanced data quality.
