Application Development

Custom programming can make or break a GIS. When done correctly, the result is an automated workflow that accomplishes tasks in the least amount of time, making efficient use of human and computing resources. Our GIS staff is proficient in the use of ESRI, AutoCAD, Microstation and Microsoft products, as well as a host of programming languages. We also have team members that are MCPD EAD - (Microsoft Certified Professional Developer - Enterprise Application Developer) as well as MCTS - WEB - (Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist - Web).

John Chance Land Surveys begins custom application projects by interviewing staff and reviewing workflows and IT structures. Based on the current and predictive user needs, applications are built using a mix of commercial-off-the-shelf and custom programming to automate tasks and ensure data accuracy. Capabilities include:

  • Web-Based Applications: Designed for distributed workgroups that access shared data from multiple locations, web-based applications provide ease-of-use for user groups and enable external customers to prompt internal actions. When outfitted with smart client technology, web-based applications are capable of high response times and avoid individual installation and maintenance requirements.
  • Mobile Applications: By merging wireless technology with GIS, users can provide real-time GIS updates to databases from remote locations for more productive asset inventory, maintenance, or inspection.
  • Desktop Applications: Well-suited for small, internal workgroups with standard operating systems and support programs, desktop applications enjoy fast response times and easy implementation.
