Asset and Data Management

With geography as the unifying element to link diverse types of information, John Chance Land Surveys' exclusive CHALIS system helps customers visualize and understand complex datasets for improved decision making. The system can be used for a wide range of “knowledge integration” activities, including geo-intelligence operations for well and pipeline planning, and tracking of proposed locations, as well as facility management and security applications in confined geographies, such as oil refineries and ports; and utility management for large-scale transmission lines and substations.

CHALIS Overview

CHALIS combines 2D GIS fully synchronized with 3D thematic mapping, query and analysis capabilities, analytical modeling, and time-series visualization. The system creates a common operating environment for geospatial decision-support, allowing users from different disciplines to explore the same data in ways specific to their applications.

CHALIS Functionality

  • Real-time data processing: The system accepts dynamic updates from external systems. These updates specify an object type, a unique identifier, coordinates, and attributes.
  • Additional navigation options: 2D and 3D displays are synchronized by default so that navigation in one triggers the appropriate update in the other. Advanced options include freezing the 3D camera’s eye point and setting its look-at point by clicking in the 2D display.
  • 2D vector animation: The client and server allow georeferenced time-series vector data to be displayed on a transparent layer above 2D GIS data. If the map extents change, the vector data is transformed to match. This capability enables highly interactive exploration of time-series data.
